As a pets' guardian and mom, their well-being and comfort are my primary responsibility. The hottest time of the year on the island is always around and our pets suffer from the intense heat. 

It is important to keep in mind that not all the clothes made for pets are suitable for them. Dressing up your pet should have functionality. You should avoid putting tight garments that denaturalize or restrict your pet's movement. For that reason, acquiring your pieces from certified personnel, who perfectly understand the anatomy of a pet, is highly recommended. That said, let's mention some good things about dressing your pet. 

Special clothes can protect you dog from the sun rays.

Contrary to what many people think, dressing your pet could benefit him/her against any heat stroke.  What we have to be very aware of is some textiles that due to their poor ventilation, could cause overheating and even allergies, especially for those pets with sensitive skin.

Pieces made with synthetic textiles and inks could trigger reactions such as increased body temperature, itching, discomfort, reddening of the skin, and even the appearance of a welt. The recommendation is to use natural fibers such as cotton and those with SPF that block the sun's harmful rays, especially during the summer season.

If upon placing such a piece on your pet you notice any reaction as described in the first paragraph it is important that you immediately remove it from your pet and go to your veterinarian so that you can control the symptoms.

Contrary to the thought that "dressing our pets goes against their nature and humanizes them", know that doing so significantly decreases your pet's risk of contracting skin cancer - the second most common cause of death among pets living in the tropics.

Using the tools available to protect our best friend is part of what we do, as well as providing them with many things they wouldn't have if they weren't domesticated. There are very light clothing, sun shirts, hats and even sunscreen for them and they are especially useful for dogs with short coats that feel the heat more intensely, because the sun penetrates to their skin more easily than in a dog with a thick coat.

Taking care of them is part of the love we express to our dogs and of course no one should judge you for being informed and choosing to dress them in summer, winter and traditional times such as birthday celebrations, Christmas, Valentine's Day and Halloween, if we are going to take them to the beach or to go out with our friends. What is very important is not to get carried away by fashions and pay too much attention to this aspect of the pieces and not the materials with which they are made, many of them are inappropriate - first learn about the fabrics that can be used.

The truth is that dressing our four-legged friends has become something beautiful, which leads us to interact more closely as guardians.

We want them to look spectacular but comfortable and protected with designs created for our climate, as a designer this is my number one rule when creating a collection.

Como guardián y mamá de mis mascotas su bienestar y comodidad son mi responsabilidad primordial. 

Comienza la época más fuerte de calor en la isla y nuestras mascotas, como nosotros, padecen por el intenso calor.  Muy al contrario de lo que muchos piensan, vestir a su mascota podría beneficiarla frente a cualquier golpe de calor— a lo que tenemos que estar muy pendientes es a algunos textiles que debido a su pobre ventilación, podrían provocarles sobre calentamiento e incluso alergias, sobre todo a aquellas mascotas que son de piel sensible.  

Piezas elaboradas con textiles y tintas sintéticas podrían desencadenar reacciones como aumentar la temperatura corporal, picor, incomodidad, enrojecimiento de la piel, inclusive aparición de alguna roncha.  La recomendación es utilizar opciones de piezas de fibras naturales como el algodón y aquellas con SPF que bloquean los rayos dañinos del sol, en especial durante la época de verano.  

Si al colocar dicha pieza a su mascota observa alguna reacción como la que se describe en el primer párrafo es importante que la retire de inmediato a su mascota y vaya a su veterinario para que pueda controlar los síntomas.

Contrario al pensamiento de que “vestir a nuestras mascotas va contra su naturaleza y es humanizarles” sepa que hacerlo disminuye significativamente el riesgo de que su mascota contraiga cancer de piel— la segunda causa mas común de muerte entre las mascotas que viven en el trópico. Utilizar las herramientas disponibles para proteger a nuestro mejor amigo es parte de lo que nos corresponde, al igual que proporcionarles muchas cosas que no tendrían si no fueran domésticos.  Existen piezas muy ligeras, camisas de sol, gorras y hasta filtro solar para ellos y que son especialmente útiles para perros de pelajes cortos que sienten el calor con mas intensidad, pues el sol penetra hasta su piel con mayor facilidad que en un perro con pelaje abundante. 

Cuidarlos es parte del amor que les expresamos y por supuesto nadie debería juzgarle por estar informado y optar por vestirlos en el verano, invierno y épocas tradicionales como celebración de cumpleaños, Navidad, San Valentín y Halloween, si vamos a llevarlos a la playa o a salir con nuestras amistades. Lo que si es muy importante es no dejarse llevar por las modas y poner demasiado cuidado en este aspecto de las piezas y no de los materiales con los que esta confeccionada, muchos de ellos son inapropiados— antes aprenda sobre las telas que pueden llevar.

La verdad es que vestir a nuestros amigos de cuatro patas se ha convertido en algo bonito, que nos lleva a interactuar de forma más cercana como guardianes. 

Queremos que luzcan espectaculares pero cómodos y protegidos con diseños creados para nuestro clima, como diseñadora esta es mi regla número uno cuando voy a crear una colección.
